Monterrey, April 16-19, 2009

The SF Urban Riders (SFUR) club has much to celebrate after their huge successes at the Sea Otter Classic. SFUR created a team of seven members and collectively they raised over $7000. Once the SRAM grant was added their club earned a whopping $10,500 in just three weeks of fundraising and one weekend of sweet racing. Peter Durham was their fundraising all-star with over $2300, who also came in 12th in his Cat 2 (M29-34) Cross Country Race. Mitch Monroe raised $1150 and made the podium with a 3rd Place in the Cat 1 Men's 30-34 bracket. According to team captain and club president Dan Schneider, this money will be used to seed a great new Youth Program, including a club house, entry-level pump track, and recycled bikes that San Francisco kids can earn by participating in activities such as habitat stewardship projects and bike repair volunteer hours.
During the event, IMBA schwagged the team out in awesome new jerseys, camelbaks, and pro-deals for GT bikes. After all the riding was over the team was treated to an endless flow of free beer at the IMBA California benefit party and honored for their fabulous achievements. Many thanks to the SF Urban Riders for raising the fundraising bar for Team IMBA!
Pre-Race Information:
Give back to the trails you love and get treated like a VIP while riding in a world-class event! The 19th Annual Sea Otter Classic is considered the world's largest cycling festival, hosting nearly 10,000 professional and amateur athletes and 50,000 fans.
If you participate in any Sea Otter ride as a Team IMBA rider, you will receive online professional race training during the weeks leading up to the event and earn great prizes as you work to raise funds for trails with IMBA (we'll show you how!) And, best of all, the funds you raise will help IMBA and your local mountain bike club build better trails both in your backyard and across the country. Half of all the funds you raise will go directly to your local mountain bike club of choice AND for every $500 you raise, SRAM will throw in an additional $500 to go entirely to that local club! So, if you raise $500, $250 will go to the IMBA National Trailbuilding fund and a whopping $750 will go to your local club! Learn more here.
Once at Sea Otter, Team IMBA riders can head to the GT Sprinter van for mechanical assistance and awesome demo bikes to ride, kick back with the crazy crew at the IMBA booth, and join us in town as special guests to IMBA’s Saturday Night Party.
